Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I create a field?
To create a custom field, go to "Create a Field" link. You will see the drop down menu with the field types. Select the field type for the field you are creating and you will see the rest of the settings for the field to edit. If the field you are creating is a drop down, checkbox or radio button, in order to add the options for these field types you will have to go to the "Edit Fields" page, select the link that says "edit" by the field, and go to the "add an option" link towards the bottom of the page.
2. HTML is not showing in the text boxes now (example My playlist - no playlist shows)
Make sure you have set the max characters allowed to a higher number than the defaulted value. The max character setting will cut off all extra characters beyond the set point, even HTML. Each field has a max character setting. In order to edit a current field's max character length go to : "Edit Fields" -> "Edit" and you will see the setting towards the top/middle of the page.
3. What is CP: My Details of Profile CP / Profile Settings Page CP
CP stands for Control Panel. The My Details CP will edit the my details section that is found on the profile page. You will see the current field(s) set to the my details section and the order to which they are set. Also, you will see the phpfox defaulted extra values (Last Logged In, Member Since, etc) . You can set them to be enabled/disabled on the my details section as well as their order.
4. Field Groups - please explain better, how to use, what is the purpose, etc.
And...
5. Field Group Templates - Please give examples of templates to use for different uses.
The field groups are used to make field sections that can look like the "my details" section. When you create/edit a field group, the "Top Part of Template" is the header part of the group, like the way the title to the "my details" section is "My Details" with the html look given. The "Middle Part of Template" is the body of the group. This is where the fields will go. When you are putting you custom html code, keep in mind wherever you want the field name to go, put "<%prompt%>", and put "<%data%>" where you want the user's information for the field to go. The "End Part of Template" is the end code for the template. The "Add a Field to Group" is where you can add a field to the group.
Now, the templates are something completely independent to the field groups. The templates is where you can create and assign a specific look to an individual field where you do not want more than one field in the template. For example, if you wanted to use some custom html to change the look to say the "About Me" section, you could use a template.

I have User Type and Profile Fields Adder installed.
Since I installed this 2.0 update all the profiles types are showing up in the BROWSE SECTION of the site as TABS, and this is messing up my hole design, since I have like 10 different profiles types.
HOW TO DISABLE profiles types from appearing as TABS in BROWSE SECTION ?
Thanks,
Robit

We already have this and we still DON'T understand!
Create a Field - Add a field
Edit Fields - Change any field properties. For checkboxes, radio buttons, and drop down menus, admin can add/remove options.
Copy Fields - Add data to a field using another field's information. Data will be overwritten.
Merge Fields - Join two fields of the same type.
Fields on Profile - Organize the fields on the user's profile.
Field Groups on Profile - On the user's profile page, organize fields into section(s).
My Details on Profile CP - On the user's profile page, edit the "My Detail's" section.
Profile Settings Page CP - Edit the Profile Settings Page.
Sign-Up Page CP - Edit the Sign-Up Page.
Templates - Create templates for fields that are not within a group.
Give us examples:
1. Fields on Profile
- THIS DON'T WORK! WHY???? I assign a field to a particular group and it shows on all groups?!?!?
2. Field Groups on Profile
- What sections? How is this going to organize fields into sections? What's the layout of these sections going to look like?
3. My Details on Profile CP
- CP?? Control Panel???? I put in the order numbers and it DON'T WORK!
4. Profile Settings Page CP
- I put in the order numbers and it DON'T WORK! HTML doesn't work in the Text Boxes anymore - WHY???
5. Templates
- Create templates for fields that are not within a group - What groups? Are you talking about USER GROUPS? What is a template suppose to look like? When did we suppose to know this?
How many forms of templates can their be? Got any you want to share?
Better Screen shoots of all this and step-by-step instructions is what we need.
Example:
Step 1. Come up with a great new mod.
Step 2. Write out the plan for the build of the new mod.
Step 3. Test the plan for the new mod on PHPFox
Step 4. Write instructions on how to use each section of the new mod (in all possible ways, based off the plan)
Step 5. Take Snap shoots and include examples from step 4 above.
Step 6. Test the mod for BUGS.
Step 7. Refine instructions as new terms and symbols are invented.
Step 8. Test the mod for BUGS, Instructions, ease of use, admin and user friendly - BY A PANEL OF THE SUPPORT STAFF that will be answering calls/emails about the product in step 11 below.
Step 9. Market the new mod - AFTER ALL BUGS ARE FIXED/PATCHED.
Step 10. Include admin documentation into all mods on how to setup the mod after installation.
Step 11. Provide dedicated support team (who knows and have tested the product) to support loyal customers
Step 12. When the new mod don't work - TAKE CARE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS FIRST before they loose confidence in your product and company. THEN GO BACK TO STEP 1.

These really aren't questions, guys, they're support requests. This area is for questions on how to use the mod, not for helping you work out issues. If you have a problem with the mod, please post your info in a support request in 'support tickets'

Hello IMARIDER,
To create a custom field, goto "Create a Field" link. You will see the drop down menu with the field types. If the field you are creating is a drop down, checkbox or radio button, in order to add the options for these field types you will have to goto the "Edit Fields" page, select the link that says "edit" by the field, and goto the "add an option" link towards the bottom of the page.

Ryan,
Some of us need some explicit screen shots and examples of these items.
Specifically, for the Field Groups and Field Groups Templates you just mentioned.
In my day job, I run training classes for very expensive software. To that end I write some of my own courses with training manuals, complete with screen shots showing what to do step by step.
I would be willing to offer my support and work with you and others to develop and post this type of documentation.
If anyone is interested in working with me to do this please send me a reply either here or privately at nfr_guy@hotmail.com .

Hey Guys and Gals,
The field groups is where fields can be organized into a section via HTML on the profile page. Simply put, the admin can make sections like "My Details" section on any location on the profile page.
Here is a set of directions on how to use the field groups:
When you goto the "Field Groups on Profile" page on the Profile Fields Control Panel in the Admin Panel, you will see something that looks like the following:
The down down will show all the groups that the admin has created. In order to edit any group, select the group, and click the "Edit" button. If you desire to create a group, select the "Add" button found below the "Edit" button. ALSO TO NOTE: If there are no groups created, the drop down and the edit button will not be displayed.
http://www.konsort.org/images/howto/groups-main.gif
When you create an group and have pressed the "Add" button, you will be sent to a page that looks like this:
http://www.konsort.org/images/howto/groups-add.gif
-The "Group Name" is the name of the group. The Group Name is a reference for only the admin and it will not be displayed on the public side of your site.
-The "Top Part of Template" is the header part of the field group. Here is where start any tables, divs, etc that will be encasing the group. Also, the title of the group can be created here, like "My Details" to the my details section.
-The "Middle Part of Template" is where the content is located. The field information and name will be displayed here. When you are putting you custom html code, keep in mind wherever you want the field name to be located, put "<%prompt%>", and put "<%data%>" where you want the user's information for the field to be placed.
-The "End Part of Template" is where you close any HTML tables, divs, etc that were created in the "Top Part of Template". Also, you can add footer text or any extra HTML here.
Here is an example of the Top, Middle, and End Template using the "My Details" section's HTML.
-Top Part of Template:
<table style="width: 100%;" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td class="border2">
<table style="width: 100%;" class="mainmenu5" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0">
<tr>
<td width="7"><img src="design/pic/spacer.gif" class="sqr1" alt="" height="7" width="7" /></td>
<td class="block_header">My Details</td>
</tr>
</table>
-Middle Part of Template:
<table style="width:100%;">
<tr>
<td style="width:50%;font-size:8pt;font-weight:bold;text-align:right;" class="border13"><%prompt%>:</td>
<td style="width:50%;font-size:8pt;" class="color"><%data%></td>
</tr>
</table>
-End Part of Template:
</td>
</tr>
</table>
When the group is created, the fields can then be added.
Select the group to edit, then select the edit button. Near the bottom of the page you will find the "Add Field to Group" link. It will send you to a page that looks like this:
http://www.konsort.org/images/howto/group-option-add2.gif
Using the drop down menu filled with all the available fields, select the field you desire to add. Then, enter the order number you want the field to be displayed in the group. After that, select the "Add Field" button.
Hopefully this provides more of the visual guidance.

Ryan, My Man :D Thank You!
That helped imensely!!!
It still wasn't perect, mind you. I still had to experiment a while before I got all the pieces to jive. But the screenshots and the sample code made it possible for me to pull it all together.
You can see my sample work using these sections and fields at www.kushkillsyou.com
Check out Megabreath (Band) and Bugsy (general member).
Might I recommend that you include the sample code in future releases.

Ryan,
Thank you. This is step in the right direction.
Could use a bit more clarification and examples, but it's a good start.
Please continue with the examples and lessons.

Hi NFR,
I checked out your site http://www.kushkillsyou.com
Even your site has the same problem as mine (that confirms that profile field adder has a bug).
Go to Browse. Select keyword search, scroll & select a newly added fiel (for example 'test'). Try typing anything. Lets say 'abcd' & click on search. Normally it should either show result or show nothing found. Isn't it? But it doesn't. You'd know what I mean.
If you come accross a solution/work-around, please be so kind to share with me?

I found following --- This might help you sort out where is the problem.
Step1: I installed the Profile field adder
Step 2: Created a field, say "test"
Step3: In Profile it doesn't appear & in Browse, same problem
Step4: I replaced all the upload folder files with the original phpfox files.
Now, found profile field-adder mod is disappeared, but the created fields exist & they work perfect, i.e: shows in the profile field & also works fine in the Browse.
Any idea? I think now it should be very easy to find the clue for someone who has more php & mysql knowledge than me. Please help me.

I put ina support request - this is not working for me. So far the issues I see are the browse page is not seeing the changes of fields to be included on the browse page and I see no details that should be in the My Details on the profile.
I hope we can get this fiuxed soon. I need to advertise the site and would like it working before I do.
Konsort.org Profile Fields Adder v2.11 for 1.6+
OK, I got the fields to show, but you cannot edit them (My Detail) fields from the cp :(
